Fitting scooter bearings into Metal core wheels is a little trickier as they are designed to be a tight fit so pushing them in by hand rarely works. In our workshop we used to use a vise to gently squeeze them in, but now we use a hammer!! Apply a small amount of grease to the edges of each bearing you are going to install. Apply a small amount of grease to the inside hole on the scooter wheel where the bearings are going to be fitted. Place the bearing over the hole in the wheel and try and make sure that it is straight/level as possible. Place either a block of wood or an old paperback book over the top of the bearing and gently strike this with the hammer (Important - do not strike the bearing directly with the hammer). When the bearing has been hammered in fully into the hole in the middle of your wheel it should sit flush with the edge of the wheel Turn the wheel over and insert the bearing spacer (you will need a bearing spacer, if you do not use one your wheel will not spin when you do your axles up securely!)

You may find that for your make and model you do need to buy them separately, but do buy all three as we want to replace the lot. Now this is a big job, not for the feint hearted , you are going to need a little bit of space to work in, but it's going to save you a fortune compared with buying a new machine or calling out an engineer. Safety first, make sure you are unplugged from the mains. So let's get on with removing the tub from the machine.

Mounting onto an adapter sleeve enables the bearings to operate at higher speeds, run more smoothly in applications where the direction of rotation is constant or alternating. The SKF range, which comprises bearings with bore diameter from 25 to 65 mm, fits adapter sleeves in the H 23 series for metric shafts ranging from 20 to 60 mm. These bearings can also be used on adapter sleeves in the HA 23, HE 23 and HS 23 series for inch shafts ranging from 3/4 to 2 3/8 inch diameter.
