Y-bearings with an eccentric locking collar are intended primarily for use in applications where the direction of rotation is constant. Turning the locking collar on the inner ring extension in the direction of rotation locks the collar and the bearing onto the shaft. A single grub (set) screw further secures the collar to the shaft. There are two standard series available from SKF: Y-bearings in the YET 2 series have an extended inner ring on one side and are fitted with the rugged "Superagriseal" on both sides. The only difference comes from better sealing from the elements in a bike application. He seemed to think that bushings were the best option on bikes as you dont get a point load which in hindsight is what full sussers used to use and bearings kits were an "upgrade". Interestingly I don't remember ever having a problem with bushings.

Cold forging is a high speed manufacturing process whereby metal is shaped at room temperature often without the need for the removal of material. A simple blank is placed within a die and a punch is pressed into the blank. The blank then takes on the form of the punch and the die. By utilising multiple dies and punches in succession very complex shapes can be achieved. Metal is forced beyond its yield (elastic) limit and retains its altered shape upon removal from the die. The metal is not forced beyond its tensile strength, otherwise fracturing would occur (the exception is when trimming or piercing). Historically cold forming has been an experienced based technology, but this is changing as new computer based analytical tools are constantly being developed.
